With the exception of some of the smaller supporting characters played by actual cops, lawyers or politicians from the area, It's tough for me to think of many of The Wire parts that weren't largely defined by the actor or actress playing them. Even Steve Earle would be hard to replace and have it feel right.

While I agree Zoidberg is better than anything from (<rant>shameless shameless shameless Simba ripoff</rant>) The Lion King, I'm not sure he qualifies. He is a "lobster-like alien", Decapodian to be exact. I'd categorize him as more humanoid than animal.
