My EV requires an order of magnitude less thought and effort than my gas cars. No oil changes. No air filters. No spark plugs. No gas stations. No clutches and throw out bearings. No diff fluid or pinion seals. No chain lube. No grease fittings. Two years ago I set the max charge and then I was done with maintenance.

Pretty much every EV has a option to limit charging now...

Most, if not all, have recommendations from the manufacturer in the manual, as well as reminders within the charging software re: how to maintain battery health. As you’ve suggested, it’s usually as simple as setting max charge to 80% and not dropping below 20%. People like to make things seem difficult.

No offense, but what are you doing on Jalopnik then?

Step 1: Lease your EV
Step 2: Charge it however the fuck you want

I’ve got a 2012 Volt with about 100k on the current battery (it was replaced at 20k)  The charging system itself manages a lot of that - it never fully charges since a long-ago update, and I charge on the much slower 120V outlet which should be easier on it.  And it usually stays in covered parking for extended

While this is certainly helpful, at least for the ID.4 VW provides best practices for charging and preserving battery life. The standard setting is to not charge above 80% and they recommend not leaving the vehicle at full charge for extended periods of time and to only fully charge if truly needed. Given the

My son is a tech at a Ford dealer.  This is not only a Tesla thing.  He sees stuff like this all the time.  Stickers on one side of the bed and not the other, once different colored door panels, not brand matching tires.  Do a little research and see what else you can uncover vs just shitting on the easy one.

The Mach E tops out at 370 miles, and it’s less than 300 miles from detroit to Mackinac City, so it would make that trip. But the argument comes in about reduced range from loading up a family, using AC, reduced efficiency on the highway, etc etc etc. Semantics. I mostly agree with your point, but current EV’s suit

Saying they are losing $44k on every EV sale is highly misleading. /They are taking their total costs and write-downs of assets and applying it to every car sold. That is very different than the actual cost per vehicle for material labor and overhead.

Wait. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard every Trump voter I meet telling me that gas prices are at an all-time high, and the only way to get them back down again is if he’s back in office.

I average about 60/40 EV/gas usage in my PHEV daily if I don’t charge up at work. If I do then it is more like a 90/10 ratio. Pretty much gas up every 3 or 4 weeks now rather than every 4 or 5 days. Slightly smaller tank too. My work as free charging which is supposed to be limited to 4 hours, but it isn’t so people

I have to take issue with “however, they were pretty bland cars-” They were not. Remember, at the time, they were like stepping into the future, if you were used to what american cars were at the time. My dad got one (a metallic sandalwood wagon) as a company car and it was just... WOW.

I like to think it isn’t about difficult to get resources, as in the fuel and slim jims, as it is that customers are paying in a few minutes for the owner to be there all year.

Or you could look it up - $0.64 /kWh

I don’t quite get the hate towards the station. I can imagine they have to pay a serious premium to get a fuel delivery truck out that way. If it really is 100 miles from anywhere, that’s not gonna be a cheap delivery.

Some dudes: “ after buying my 1 ton truck, 40 ft camper, ATVs, SXS, snowmobiles, jet skis, bass boat, ice house and Harleys, I can’t afford gas, damn commie liberals”

Supply and demand, baby. Same price structure on cruise ships and movie theaters. And in defense of the gas station, a little pre-planning with fueling up before driving into the desert and traveling with plenty of water is simple common sense.

I wish Courtney Loveseat would shut the hell up. Scary to think he could be a heartbeat away from the big boy chair if everything goes belly up in November.

I got a EV cause I do high mileage.... (20k+ miles a year), work reimbursement, and it’s saving me so much fucking gas money right now.
