Are there other “fancy bean” brands other than Rancho Gordo? This is a good piece, but with only one “premium bean brand” tested (ugh that phrase feels so gross), it reads a bit like an ad for RG. But, if they’re the only ones doing it, good on em!

Oh this looks beautiful. Love harissa for sauce but always forget about it when braising meats because I tend to use smoked paprika in everything. I’m excited to try this out!

Oof yeah that section of Two Towers is rough. I often hear people complain about how long Fellowship and The Hobbit take to get going, but I’ll take world-building over being stuck in a swamp any day.

The best compromise, IMO, is to read The Hobbit aloud to them as an introduction, and then have the kid read Lord of the Rings on their own.

Jason Momoa pulling his abs off of his body will join the nightmare fuel of Rebel Wilson unzipping a suit of her own skin in CATS in the great pantheon of Accidental Body Horror Gags.

Loved this interview. Schoonmaker is just brilliant. Honestly gasped when I saw you guys got to talk to her - it seemed like too big of a celebrity somehow, even for a below-the-line person like an editor.

Thanks for this article. I knew a lot of the broad strokes from following Alyssa Cole & Ripped Bodice on Twitter, but this tied in a lot of threads I wasn’t aware of. So much of the coverage of the RWA implosion has been so condescending and this was just a comparatively lovely read.

This is lovely

When I moved out of dorms and into an apartment in college, my dad took me to restaurant supply store to get me a good chef’s knife. Now to be fair, a nice knife for us was like $30-40, but I still have, use, and love that thing years later.

Absolutely

A couple months back I was gifted a wooden mold for shaping blocks of compound butter but haven’t given it a go yet. I’m vaguely worried about how I’ll clean it and also just haven’t found a recipe I like. This article makes it sound easier than I’d thought though, so I’ll give it a go soon!

God I love HEB

Nice one

As someone who hosts most of the holiday parties for my social circle, I’m most grateful when people bring desserts and drinks, as I then don’t have to worry about making those things on top of other food. Non-alcoholic drinks/mixers are also always welcome.

The movie is also funny as hell. That fucking donut runner had the whole theater in stitches.

Cost tracking is hard when multiple parties are involved in making the meal. For instance, my partner and I are making the turkey, stuffing, potatoes, pecan pie, and making cocktails. That’s only set us back about $40-50, considering that we have a 9lb bird and most of the pie ingredients are pantry staples we already

The problem with the Dent arc in TLH is that Nolan already used it as the basis for Dent’s characterization/arc in The Dark Knight. I would assume Reeves and co. are hoping to avoid retreading the same ground with that character, so it’d make sense if they were to side-step all the Harvey Dent/Two Face stuff.

I mean it’d be interesting to see how Gotham reacts when the first caper of these new costumed villains is dehydrating the UN Security Council. The Joker wasn’t particularly essential to that plot, so maybe they’ll wait for a later installment to introduce him as the pitcher in a prison baseball game.

No no, I’m pretty sure they’re just remaking Batman 66.

New Frontier is so fucking good
