Yikes! I still remember Cheese’s articles about poverty, which were enlightening to many of my friends who live in white, liberal bubbles. Do you know what happened (assuming you can share)?

OT, but this is the third online comment I’ve seen in the past week celebrating “ope” as some big Midwest thing. Hmm? I’m a fourth-generation Texan who’s lived in Atlanta for 15 years. My only visit to the Midwest was a weekend in Cleveland during college. But I and everyone I know blurts out “ope!” as a sorry/oops…
I gotta think that Beto’s team is smart enough to deliberately make their signage just like the Whataburger logo.
I taught middle school for years, and my students would roll their eyes about how babyish those stupid cartoony stickers were. When I transferred to high school, my juniors and seniors LOVED my sticker stash - the sillier and sparklier, the better.
And please don’t forget Jane Mayer, his co-writer.
Yup. I know that an Outkast reunion was not gonna happen, and I know that there is no Super Bowl musical act residency requirement. But still! THIS was the best they could do? In Atlanta!?
I call it “medicine TV” - I know I should like it, but I just can’t muster any emotional engagement whatsoever.
On a crappy day, this made me laugh aloud. Thank you.
Don’t forget Jimmy the Cab Driver!
Sunnydale HS grad, here. Don’t even get me started.
I thought baby-eating saved us from being overrun by Irishmen?
PEARland, actually, not Parkland. And now I’m craving fruit.
Reminds me of the school where I student-taught back in ‘97. Chocolate cake made with beets. Couldn’t taste them, but they gave the cake a sorta burgundy tint. Surprisingly good.
I spent my first 22 years in Texas. I’m fourth-generation, and I visit my family there twice a year. It’s funny — when I lived there, I was aggressively “meh” about Whataburger. Now that I live in Atlanta, I miss them (and Taco Cabana) like crazy.
Whataburger is liberal? Granted, I haven’t spent much time in Texas over the past few years, but I think they have “In God We Trust” stenciled on the windows of every restaurant.
I finally had In-N-Out in Texas last year. It was... fine. Good burgers, fries, and shakes, but far from the Second Coming (even when judged as fast food.)
Taco Bell? In San Antonio? Wow, when it comes to fast-food promotions, Taco Cabana really dropped (dribbled?) the ball this time.
Mine is inconsistent sizing, particularly at Old Navy. Back in May, I bought two pair of those new Pixie pants in size 18 (lost some weight recently!). I’m apple-shaped, with a big belly but fairly trim legs, and almost all their pants would look like riding jodhpurs in the thighs -- but the Pixies fit beautifully.…
Gotta admit - one of my first reactions to Saturday night’s news was, “Now that Fox News has gone whole-hog Trumpism, I wonder how they’re reporting this?”
Heavenly Creatures is an excellent analogy. Now that I think of it, the two stories really do have much in common.
