And then you grow up and realize that body decoration is human and that there isn’t a culture in the world that doesn’t send messages through appearance. No make up or layer in on an inch deep—it is all a form of self expression.

I think the way we’ve sexualized any and all nudity only makes things worse. Not only that- the way we act like only people with beautiful enough bodies are “allowed” to be naked. Like seeing a less than perfect naked body is going to scar people.

I’m assuming compartmentalized, teens are very mean people and should not be allowed to see each other in any state of undress unless they want to be seen.

I mean, to address your last point...high schoolers are pretty shit people at that age. I know that you get a lot of people scoffing at the idea as ridiculous, but the idea that a high school boy would tell his friends he’s going to dress like a girl for a few weeks so he can get in the girls’ locker room and judge

I went to a girls school and we all mastered the art of changing without ever showing skin. Doesn’t every girl learn how to slip in and out of bras without remover her shirt? No one was looking at anyone. No one was walking around naked or showering together. I feel like a lot of the outrage is based on fictional

I HATED changing in the locker room, especially in middle school, but also in high school. My family gave me a not-so-healthy dose of shame about my body. I’m guessing I’m not the only one. It would have been 20x worse if there were boys in the locker room. But add one or two transgirls to the mix, and it wouldn’t add

Unisex bathrooms for teens is an impractical idea that is well-meaning but willfully dismissive of hormonal changes in adolescents. Unless you’re suggesting compartmentalized unisex locker rooms so that everyone has individualized privacy.

when some transboy is brutalized in a male locker room it will be on trans supporters. Notice how we almost always talk about transwomen - but the idea of putting a preop transboy in a locker room naked with teen-aged boys can only mean trouble.

I gurarantee you that opinion will go down like a box of rocks on this website.

I guess...by this case, I’m not sure why we have locker room separation. Not saying that people will pretend to be trans to get into the opposite locker room, but more that, well, wasn’t the point that you don’t have to see someone else’s differing genitalia? If that’s not it, why do we care?

If you have a couple of hours here and there, you could always go to the bookstore and “browse” it... I read a LOT of books that way because waiting too long at the library is a pain in my bottom.

I heard Leah on Howard Stern this morning and it sounds like she doesn’t really have much ill will, per se, towards the Church. She just sort of made the argument that it wasn’t for her, and she kept saying how she totally understands that all her old friends can’t talk to her now, even though it’s painful. It sounds

And here is the quote:

I don’t need personal horror stories, I need 20/20 to adequately explain why all of this shit was bad. Because “we had to wear black and people chased us” isn’t enough to really give me context on what that means and why it matters. It just sounds kinda weird, but hey, Scientology is kooky! Shrug.

I don’t really need her to have horror stories. I wanted to hear some actual information on why Scientology is abusive and terrible, and this wasn’t that.

It’ll be in the dollar pile at your local Wal-Mart soon enough.

As it should! I mean, that coupled with the fact that they don’t really learn anything (unless it’s Scientology-related) in their schools basically guarantees that they won’t become well-adjusted adults.

Yeah. Didn’t Katie Holmes make some weird statement once when Suri was a baby about how she was a “lovely person/lady” or something? It’s a baby weirdo.

If I’m remembering correctly, Scientologists just believe that children are mini adults, and should be treated as such?

The Philly connection is making me think “MALL”
