He made his fortune by paying his employees a wage so low they could not survive without government assistance. Your taxes have paid into this man’s billions of dollars
This donation certainly will not hurt anything.
Did you miss where Nolan wrote about the “diminishing marginal utility” of money? That means donating x% of Nolan’s net worth is way more meaningful and financially painful than Bezos donating the same percentage. Or even much, much more. Hell, Bezos could donate 99% of his net worth and he’d still be extremely rich…
Then these terms don’t mean anything anymore. So, it’s just propaganda. By your definition all taxation is nationalization.
What? No it isn’t. Nationalization would be the government taking over Amazon and declaring it a public utility. What you’re describing is “taxes”.
I make less than 50k a year. The vast majority of that goes to student loans, rent, car payments, power and water, etc. At any given time, I have maybe a couple grand in my bank account, much of which will be eaten up if I ever go to the hospital or need to fix my car.
No. What I wrote is pretty fucking clear, assuming you’re not a right wing propagandist. Every society throughout the history of mankind has told people what they can and cannot do with their money. You can’t buy organs off the black market. You can’t buy illegal drugs. You can’t buy people.
What a stupid notion. OF COURSE the government will be better at spending Jeff Bezos’ money for the general well being than Jeff Bezos. How do we know? Because of how each has actually done so since the start of Amazon. You’d have to be an utter moron to think Jeff would be better at something he’s clearly never, ever…
Because of the “finally” part and because what he donated pales in comparison to what he should have been paying to employees and/or in taxes all this time.
There’s plenty of socialism that doesn’t coexist with authoritarian regimes. Look at Scandinavia. Hell, look at FDR.
How did it work in France and the UK?
Yeah, that had nothing to do with those countries’ authoritarian regimes.
What the fuck does that have to do with anything?
Precisely. After his debacle with unilaterally and single-handedly shutting down a very popular bill that would address exceedingly serious issues in Seattle, I feel like that’s the standard of Citizens United being evil.
This is what Mark Zuckerberg has also done. It’s all really good support for the notion that people should not be able to accumulate this much wealth to begin with.
Imagine how the country would benefit if him and his company paid a tax rate that is on parity of what we all pay taxes.
I have read two articles about this now, and one thing keeps troubling me: it’s no longer the “white man’s burden” but the “rich man’s burden.”
“I will be just like him!!!!”
In b4 “He earned that money! Why should he give it away!”
