Funny, I was only a couple of years older than the kids in the movie when it came out and I saw it in the theatre and couldn’t relate to it whatsoever. I saw this as a 30 year old film buff and hated it. But what I hated more was the teens in the audience getting off on it like it was celebrating their lifestyle. Taught me to write off Scarberia as a wasteland and move West.

Yup. I had the same experience growing up and watching the movie. All these people who complain about how squeamish and depressing the movie is don’t realize…that’s the point. Larry Clark wanted to make us all uncomfortable so we would know what the fuck was actually going on in the city.
