There is a difference between spanking a child and spanking an adult. I'm not advocating belts or beatings, and I don't think Dlzlet Sma is either, but it's ridiculous to call someone a terrible adult for spanking a child.

Exactly! I was spanked and yelled at as a child until I got to the point where I could truly understand the difference between right and wrong (I'd say this was about 8 or 9 years old). I do agree that middle school is kind of old to spank/yell at a kid, but to completely condemn the practice seems a little absurd. I…
Yeah this study was all middle school aged kids. I would imagine different techniques might work differently at different developmental stages, but I have no experience in this area (no kids, not a child psychologist).
Never argue with a 2 year old: you'll lose. Every time. Yup. Been there, done that, had to take the parenting course to unlearn it.
But you shouldn't yell at or spank an upset toddler. Also not effective.
No, his mom was actually a stay at home mom, but he's the oldest of three much younger sisters, so he was like a junior parent, basically, as a kid. He's also much more comfortable with infants than I am (I'm scared I'm gonna drop them, though I know that's completely irrational) because he took care of his sisters,…
My boyfriend's mother was a stay at home mom but he still does more cleaning than me. Could be a fluke or I could just be a slob but I think that as long as you teach your kids to do chores occasionally, they'll turn out to be considerate about housework.
To add another data point to your theory, housework is something I don't mind (washing the dishes is kinda soothing to me for some weird reason) as well. I grew up in a single-parent household so I did my fair share of work around the house to help her out.
Exactly. And since they're on a public sidewalk, they're technically not breaking the law ('merica!). If I did approach I may be the one to get violent, so I throw up a middle finger.
I'm thinking there may be more women who are working part time by choice, so they both have those jobs longer and are more likely to have the associated credentials for them. Men working part time tend to be younger, so more of them may be guys who are still trying to get their skillsets together and find full time…
I booed a guy in Times Square the other day wearing one of those "Abortion Kills Children" signs. Felt damn good.
the antiabortionists are only allowed to protest outside our hospital on Tuesdays... or Wednesday, I can't remember. But it's always just old people ...sometimes they bring their dogs.
They really do. I do clinic escorting from time to time (in the US) and non-American tourists who happen to be passing by are always just so blown away at the protesting/stalking of patients going to the clinic. Sometimes they take pictures of the protesters to show people back home how ridiculous it is.
HA. Yeah. I drove past an old dude holding a "choose life" sign. Just.. one old dude. Near a hospital. He's there a lot, but he never does anything outrageous. Just quietly crazy.
what a sweet kitty! can i take you home, please?
OhMyGod cute kitty! if that is yours i am sooo jealous.
Last year one of my Facebook friends posted a bunch of pictures of herself in full Zwarte Piet costume, including blackface. She's not even Dutch, she's an American who married a Dutch man and has been living in Holland the past few years. It grossed me out all the more because it's not like it's a tradition that she…
I remember something about a number of small black men that accompanied sinter klaus as well. And the cheap racist figurines. So awful. People who are normally so reasonable lose their minds over the zwarte piet thing. How can they not see the racism.
