It doesn't make you a bad person per se, just a person who is indifferent to the suffering of shelter animals. But I eat meat, so I can't really judge you too much. And I eat sushi when I'm told that overfishing is a scourge on the environment. I guess we all just get to pick and choose what's most important to us.

There are breed-specific rescues. Also, I help out with a rescue and we get papered dogs people dump at shelters. Patience means you don't support breeding animals that we simply can't support.

While there obviously are plenty of unwanted children out there, they aren't being euthanized by the millions, or bred for profit, etc. No one has the right to shame you for wanting a specific breed of cat, but it isn't the same thing, or even within spitting distance of being the same thing.
