I'm starting to think that cognitive dissonance isn't just a symptom of conservatism, but its defining property.

I'm much more interested in the HBO documentary Beware the Not-Even-Close-to-Being-Slender-Man, about how "angry white guy isolation, mental health issues, and the nebulous reality of the internet" can combine to create "a chilling mandate for Donald Trump".
Is it just me or does all hipster fashion these days just look like Victorian clothes made by someone who doesn't understand how to measure cloth properly?
Also, man, this just made me realize how much I'm gonna miss Obama…
A better educated, highly skilled population is certainly desirable, hard to argue with that. As for smaller, the best way to reduce population growth is through education, economic opportunity for women, and access to birth control. The US actually doesn't do so bad as some other countries on those metrics— could…
Yeah, I thought Obama was a great president and Obamacare is a step in the right direction! Not the ideal solution, though, and there's still issues. Obama himself has said this many times. Let's work on it!
I mean, that's one approach, and the idea of a basic guaranteed income has been floated before. I'm not sure it's necessarily the right approach— food and shelter is a bit of a thornier problem than healthcare— but I'd want to see data, or maybe an experiment. With healthcare, we're lucky because we already know…
For a bunch of reasons. Firstly, because the government's primary purpose (well, IMO anyway) is to help provide basic services and common needs. It seems totally normal to me that the government would have a stake in helping people get access to healthcare, in the way we take access to, say, the fire department for…
Er, well "single-payer" refers explicitly to a specific mechanism for providing insurance. The economics of insurance are very different than the economics of food or shelter, for reasons which I think should be obvious, so you'll need a different mechanism, but the idea, that society should endeavor to ensure all…
Everyone deserves food and shelter, of course. Single-payer refers specifically to an insurance strategy which obviously doesn't apply to food or housing, but if you're saying, should we come up with a system that keeps people from going hungry and sleeping in the street? Absolutely, and I don't think you'll find a…
A lot of people aren't poor enough to qualify for Medicaid but at the same time can't afford a medical bill that's in the tens of thousands of dollars. Also, getting health insurance from your employer is a really weird system. Single payer has been working wonderfully the world over, and we need it here, too.
This column is literally the only thing on earth that makes me care about football. God bless you, Teti.
I don't see what the big deal is, I've been sending Disqus pictures of my genitals for years.
The special effects were cheesy and the "super pepper" thing was kind of weird but otherwise thought it was pretty solid overall; those two points you mention being the highlights.
One of these days it's totally going to work!
Nothing like a bunch of old men slut-shaming a beloved character to really make you feel that female empowerment…
How the heck can you possibly quantify the "loss" for a show like this? I assume they're averaging out their revenue against the number of shows, and then subtracting the production cost of Marco Polo, but that's a really dubious method at best.
Yeah, I hear ya, I found this an interesting read but that article at Thanksgiving about how turkey sucked was pretty apalling.
No worries, I just assume most of the baseline rage is Trump-related these days.
Why is everyone always angry about everything these days?
