Jalopnik, I’d like to request a welfare check on David Tracy.

Yeah I should’ve specified I was putting on my flame suit.
This was peak Nissan and Peak Maxima, true 4DSC. By the time the generation Sentra that is the center of this article came out Nissan had lost its way. Those who remember this era of Nissan know what they are capable of.
I do a spit-take every time I look at used truck prices these days. New truck prices are out of control, and that’s driving used truck prices up to stupid levels. This is a great example. Only in this bizarro world we live in would someone expect more than $3,000 for a cosmetically and structurally questionable, high…
And I feel this way, not because I hate people making money (I actually wanted to buy a G37 IPL they had once)... but rather I’m concerned that the repaired vehicles they sell are being passed off as undamaged or they’re using the curbstoning process to avoid responsibility.
You’re comparing a 17 year old Nissan to...a new Silverado?
In the mid-90s, I had a Maxima SE. 190hp early VQ V6, 6-speed, very nice interior. A very nice car with sporting pretensions and the muscle to back them up. But Nissan has decided to build its product range around CVTs, which says all we need to know about its product philosophy.
The difference being that scalping tickets is illegal in a lot of areas.
I don’t normally... normally I just buy wrecked cars that are similar to my project cars (MGBs)... then I keep whatever spares I need and sell the rest of the parts to offset the cost of the car (thereby making my spare parts free).
“Plus, Trevino said, everybody* had the same opportunity as he did.”
...and missing the reliability part.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. My mom drives a v6 3rd gen Rav 4. It has some pep, but a rocket ship it is not.
Pics or it didn’t happen.
Whether one is shopping for a car with a MSRP of $85k or $200k, I’d still classify that as “well off”. Granted, the likelihood of someone driving away from a dealer with a Demon and a 8 year car loan is probably higher.
The same can be said for the Demon buyer.
“while 150 feet isn’t great, it’s about the same as the Jeep Wrangler, Nissan Cube and Jeep Liberty”
In their defense, people fall in love with vehicles without knowing much about them. I really, really want an early-model CJ, but upon driving one without power steering I suddenly discovered the romance has limits.
Im not saying I want touch screen controls, Im just saying it ought not be lumped into the same reliability group as, say, an engine. Consumer reports reliability ratings are almost exclusively make or break on the ease of using the infotainment. What kind of silly metric is that? Call it “ease of use”, sure, but…
The confusing stereo is a real issue when you need to look at it to control important functions in the vehicle. Also, the Edmunds long term road test has some more interesting insights. Their radio kept turning up to full volume without warning. That seems like it would be enough to distract the driver and create a…
You can do that? Doesn’t sound very reliable, then.
