That’s a weird pull but damn if you aren’t right, that scene from Contact has stuck with me a lot. There’s something so shocking and yet-so matter-of-fact in how it’s presented onscreen. It’s like, I’d say they were going for 9/11 imagery but it came out 5 years before 9/11.

Does anyone else get completely turned off by Youtube preview thumbnails with this ugly aesthetic? Looking at this I am actively disincentivized to click the thing. And they *ALL* do this.

I mean, I think around 2005 they changed their blend, and for the worse. DD’s coffee I used to consider to be a treat cus it was better than anything I could make at home, and then they changed it as as someone said downthread, nowadays it tastes like melted plastic.

Oh yes. His Batman stuff was great too.

Now playing

I hope the people working on The Monster Mash at least take a look at the original lyrics by Leo Karpatze, which were deemed too extreme for release, leading to the watered-down version by Bobby “Boris”Pickett we are all familiar with.

He absolutely crushed it. I mean, he has been retired for so long but clearly he hasn’t lost a step, this is up there with the best performances of his career. And so different from the hotheads, fast talkers, and otherwise “big” characterizations of his more iconic past roles.

I would argue that Pacino’s Jimmy Hoffa in The Irishman is actually a straight-up reprise of his Dick Tracy role.

Are you just trolling now? Those are Gizmodo articles. This is iO9. iO9 is Gizmodo’s sci-fi/fantasy sub blog. Have a nice day pal.

That Honey I Shrunk The Kids update...yeah not surprising, that grimdark synopsis from yesterday’s post did not pass the smell test.

Rachel McAdams will not reprise her role as Christine Palmer/Night Nurse in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

I am of the opinion than any Ann Magnuson is a good Ann Magnuson, no matter her demeanor.

This is a science fiction blog.

I love the entire span of his career but I have a special fondness for the schlocky genre pictures he made in the 70s and 80s. We watched Saturn 3 last night!

This is your periodic reminder that there is already a great Marvel Cinematic Universe show on Disney+, Agent Carter. And if you didn’t originally watch it on ABC, it’s brand-new to you...

Excellent costume of a rather-less-than-excellent character.

He showed up very briefly in the Earth-X crossover as well.

NINJA GOLF, F YEAH!

Good lord, could this be used to properly archive all the Homestar Runner content???

I mean, Berlanti is developing a high-budget Green Lantern show for HBO Max, isn’t he?

I did a comic strip with this exact premise back in the 90s called “Clown Hunter”. Ask me anything.
