My son’s daily driver is a 66 Mustang. It has a 5.0 from a Fox body. It’s covered in the garage for now while he’s at college, but he drove it every day his senior year of high school. There was a lot of stuff done poorly by the former owner that we’ve sorted out together.

It’s not like cops ever lie about anything, either.

I doubt he actually hit 168mph. It’s possible, as that’s the rated top speed for a C5. But the 0-150 time is damn near 40 seconds. So even starting at highway speeds, you’re looking at probably a minute of uninterrupted WOT to hit 168.

Police have been known to badly exaggerate speeds in these chases, and their equipment for measuring them is not always the most accurate. That stretch of road is an undivided 2-lane highway. I have doubts anyone is hitting 168 at night on a road like this and living to tell about it.

Corvettes are pretty cheap speed. A c5 Corvette tops out at 175mph. You can get one of those for under $15k. You can get a c6 for $20k that will do 186 without power adders, but the gearing will allow it to do well over 200 if it has the power.
