I drove a 1994 XJ12 for ten years after buying it used with 70,000 miles on the odometer. Aside from regular maintenance the only failures were the fan clutch, a door latch, the radio, and a seal on the GM-sourced transmission. When I sold it with 150,000 miles, the fuel pump was sounding a bit loud.

I owned a 2000 CLK and drove it for about 100k miles. What a great and enduring design, which always made me look back after I parked it, and easily the most reliable car I’ve ever had.

I just wish there was a Cletus Safari out to Norman Oklahoma to interview that drywall installer who just made a $50,000 commitment to a lifted pickup for - uh - ‘work’.

I was given this exact model and year Mercedes by a family friend - to ‘restore’. Problem was, of course, it was just a rusted hulk. Rust in places you wouldn’t normally expect, plus the expected when-you-lift-up-the-spare-tire-you-see-daylight situation, and then the wheel wells, bottom of doors, etc.
