I just have a huge problem with the fact that the teacher, who presumably knows this young girl lost a parent recently and is in foster care, called in the police. Isn’t this what the principal used to be for? Or a counselor of some sort? I’m sure the teacher was just following protocol, but why is THAT the protocol?

Food52 is such a disappointment. I’ve tried so many recipes from that site, and only two have turned out the way I hoped. The rest were somewhere between meh and vomit-inducing. :-[

I am bizarrely excited to see this movie. I loved the book, even though it completely tore me apart. The movie actually seems like it’s sensitive too the subject matter, and not sensational or exploitative. Can’t wait for the nation-wide release.

I agree with the sentiments, but disagree about the Mexican consular cards being good IDs. I’m a librarian in Illinois, and cannot tell thigh how many of those we see with major errors related to local addresses. We still take them (because it’s only a library card). But I don’t think they are a particularly reliable…

We went to McDonald’s in Rabat after two months in a tiny farming village. Most of the other diners were Moroccan families with kids. It was surprisingly fun.
