I'm more offended by the terrible writing than anything else. Fiction has always featured fucked up relationship dynamics and rape, unfortunately. That certainly does not make them acceptable in real life. But, at least write about these topics well.

"'Keep still,' he orders and slowly he inserts his thumb, inside me, rotating it around and around, storking the front wall of my vagina."

Hold on a second:

shut up.

Option A: Harper Lee, literary queen, is ill with dementia and is being exploited by those around her. She doesn't have a clue what's going on.

Or, "there is no evidence of rape!" As a lawyer this boggles the mind. Testimony is evidence. If she testifies that he did it, that's evidence. Just like if he testifies he didn't, that is also evidence. What people are really saying is that men are more trustworthy than women, at all times.

I know - it's perfectly find to let the accused rapist defend himself, give his side of the story. But the fact that his side of the story is considered more credible and the victim's is always somehow muddled by emotions or something is sheer sexism.

I think too many people assume that, for anyone who experiences acquaintance rape, that experience will act like a switch on their feelings, and, BOOM, you'll clearly feel like that person is an asshole. That probably happens in some cases. But when it is someone to whom you are close, whom you trust, with whom

That "gotta hear both sides!" (copyright @Desus) mentality is the worst. Like with politics: Dems say x, Republicans say z, so the truth has to be somewhere in the middle at y. No! It doesn't! One side could just be full of shit.

"He's got a nice mom! People with nice moms never do anything bad!"

I love how people automatically question every rape accuser but the word of the rapist is somehow taken as fact? It just baffles me. He said he didn't do it! All of these people who claim they were raped by this person must be lying!

I have to admit, I found Cathy's piece yesterday credible. I didn't recognize her byline, and I couldn't imagine why a woman would say she loved somebody who raped her or suggest hanging out with him. The longer transcripts and Emma's explanations put my concerns in context. It looks like she was trying to pull away

I'm just going by my own experience, but having a ~real live rapist~ in the family (grandfather) sure does seem to make a lot of people (grandmother, uncle) want to pretend that all raped women are liars (mother, aunt). These people make me sick.

I wore an ivory pair of Isotoners that we embellished with leftover lace from my gown. Super comfy!

I love those slippies! I have two pairs, black and leopard, so I can coordinate them with my work-from-home outfits.

Inversely, there is the theory that Harper Lee wrote most of In Cold Blood.

That movie made me genuinely angry. You missed the entire point of the book, Wachowski siblings!

This is so shady and incredibly disappointing. It's loathesome how certain individual and companies will exploit vulnerable individuals for a buck.

My Facebook feed is full of excited friends posting about this but icy fear shoots through me and roils in my stomach every time I think about my expectations being confronted by the reality of this book.
