My kids are off doing nothing right now. Definitely not a helicopter parent. I homeschool them for a number of reasons, but one of the main bonuses of that is they have a ton of free time. They mostly use that to run around the neighbourhood with their friends. I’m not really understanding how you came up with this

I’m going to guess you were spoiled with all sorts of crap.

No, I think I’ll stick to my 200 bucks per kid thanks. Frees up more cash to spend on people who need it. Also my kids will probably not be assholes one day. But thanks for your hot take on my parenting.

Literally the day after the election my husband forwarded me an email from his CEO telling them that based on election results the company will be focusing efforts on their US operations. It doesn’t matter what Trump does. It matters what they think he will do. These things work long term and they are making decisions

They are larger sets and they get presents from other people too. Do you have children? I’ve yet to meet one that doesn’t have way too much shit. We had this one Christmas where I really spoiled them and it was horrible. They weren’t happier. There was crap everywhere. Most of it ended up going to the thrift shop

We all knew we had bigots. Brad Trost didn’t just pop out of thin air. The thing is that now he thinks he can be PM. Ten years ago he’d never have dreamed of it because he knew his opinions were unpopular.

You could just adopt me.

Okay, so I agree with the first bit, but to answer your question. - yes! Things are different. Racist bullshit on the rise. Empowered assholes. Conservative leadership candidates modelling their campaigns after Trump’s. The bigots think this is their time to shine.

I bought myself an instant pot. I am part of the problem.

I haaaate having a ton of toys around. I don’t get parents that do this to themselves. Just more things to make a big ass mess. The less we have, the happier my kids are to tidy up.

Mine save a portion for charity of their choice. So far it’s always been the SPCA. They being in their coins and visit with the kitties. :) It’s a fun thing.

It’s a very depressing thought. I prefer my kids to know there are some fucked up things going on, but we can do things to help. And people tell me I’m a pessimist. They haven’t met this lady.

I think there’s a way to balance it out so they receive and they give. We try not to do excessive Christmases. They are getting a Lego set and a book and a stocking. But they also participate in a huge amount of giving - we help out at the food bank and the women’s shelter. Most of the focus of the month is on how we

Wow, you must have a fancy ass theatre! We pay 10.50 here for our completely flat floors and ice-less fountain pop.

I generally just refer to my Yukon as The Beast. I have a daughter Annie and I also sing that song to her. It was fun to sing to a cranky baby.

Seriously. If I already had enough money to live on for a few years, I wouldn’t give a rat’s ass about 140k. Dude. Bob. You can’t take it with you.

I’m in a more northern part of BC. Further north is far worse. But we usually have some spells of -30s. Surprised it has taken so long this year. Climate change I guess.

On the flip side, I went to Cuba in June and barely went outside because it was too hot and humid. We all have our limits.

It’s like these people have never heard of PPD. Among a million and one other things that can go wrong.

When it’s 33 here we don’t even bother with winter coats. A fleece-lined hoodie will do. :D It’s -6 right now and I was outside in leggings and a hoodie putting up Christmas decor. Now I didn’t want to be out there for long. But it was somewhat tolerable. -30s and 40s though...I don’t much care for that. I’ll maybe
