There was food, water and breathable air in the “new world” and some of the colonies still died.

It’s possible to own and enjoy a Tesla, invest in the company, possibly work with Space X, and still think Elon is bag of hot air

This 100 100 100.

Really, there’s little point in colonizing Mars. Maybe a research base there or something, but instead, we really need to focus on just not ruining the Earth, and coming up with a better asteroid detection and redirecting system.

Unless that plan is to murder a million people in the most expensive way possible, I don’t see how this plan can succeed.

You should point out to your friend that Musk was only an early investor in Tesla, which was in fact founded by two people not named Musk. He then used his majority share holdings to muscle his way into leadership, and at some point started calling himself the founder, to which the actual founder was notably upset

“If achieved, the establishment of a self-sustaining society on Mars would be a landmark in human history, and would set the stage for spreading human civilization across the whole solar system.”

Musk probably watched the Expanse and thought, “Hmm, creating a marginalized society like the Belters to build stuff for me is a really good idea.”

All you’d have to do is turn it on and it’d set fire to itself.

Farming is tricky.

In comparison, it took on the order of 100 years for a million colonists from Europe to cross an ocean to another continent.

I don’t know that he’s really a grifter - certainly not nearly to the degree as Trump. He does have both a car company and a space company, neither of which is insubstantial.

It’s not a delusion. Musk has been making inflated projections for the last ten years (how many times has Tesla missed his production target now?). Musk’s claim has a deliberate aim: hype. He’s hyping his publicly traded companies, because their valuation essentially relies on a bubble of hot air.

More likely is that they get a base on Mars with a couple thousand people, and that base starts the process of shifting towards greater self-sufficiency over time.

Both the “2050" deadline and full self-sufficiency are definitely not likely - and a stretch even if you’re starting right off at 1000 Starships ready to go at 2030. I think Musk and the fandom know that, too. Even fans of Musk joke about “Elon time” and his optimistic deadlines. More likely is that they get a base on

Send him on the first rocket with enough fuel for a 1-way trip.

Musk is a grifter, an old style carnival barker who will promise the Moon, Mars and beyond to his cultlike followers when everyone else can see how he’s completely full of BS.

Aren’t they already popping up, particularly in the youth? Idk if it’s medical popularity, but there has certainly been an uptick in the number of articles regarding kids seeing an big increase in previously rare infections in both the USA and UK.

I know you’re just copying from UK sources but, seriously, why would you bother with this BS. It being in the queer community does not make it any more nor less likely to be sexually transmitted then if all the infected were straight.
