Check out some of today’s neo-burlesque performers, namely Ms. Dirty Martini. She’s not tiny by any means, & yet she performs with confidence. She’s an amazing person & someone I admire greatly. I ain’t exactly tiny, if you know what I’m saying, & I take classes every chance I get. You should definitely try it.

Echoing the previous commenters, burlesque is very much “come as you are” - if you feel comfy in a smaller bod that’s cool, but you don’t need to be Dita to be a bad-ass performer.

Modern burlesque (at least in most communities) is incredibly body positive. I started taking classes a few years ago, and I have to say it’s been the best thing for my body image. If you’re at all curious about the art, you should definitely look into it. It’s great to be a part of a supportive community of women…

I don’t know about this video, but I read somewhere that often these old movies of dancers were actually filmed without music. Might make things look a little odd.

The saddest Antiques Roadside was someone bringing a burlesque star’s costumes and costume jewelry. It was gorgeous and you could tell it meant a lot to the man who brought it in for his neighbors.
