Jesus. I mean what the hell though, I’ve had cats for years and had a hundred scratches. No sicky sick.

When I had cats while on immuno-suppresants, I just got one of those cheap dust-masks from the hardware store and some latex gloves to wear while changing the litter box. Turns out it makes the task much more pleasant anyway.

Thank you! I have two rescue cats and these sorts of articles bother me as well. Especially when I’ve learned first hand just how affectionate cats are and how much attention they need.

And also, most people probably don’t get it from cats. Cats shed toxo for an extremely brief period even when they’re infected, so even cats with toxo only shed it for a week or two when they first contract the infection. Then, they’re just contagious anymore. It’s way more common for people to get toxo from

I have two cats that I love like sons, and it’s still important to be aware that cat scratch fever or other variants are very real. My GoT watching buddy got swiped after trying to pet one of their bellies (amateur hour), and I ran to get the first aid kid ASAP. Once I cleaned him up and bandaged the scratch I

I’ve had dogs and cats all my life. I can’t imagine preferring one over the other. They are both awesome and total assholes in their own way. I do, however, neosporin the hell out of kitty puncture wounds because even if your body can fight off the bacteria, the wound hurts like hell.

#1 rule is to immediately IMMEDIATELY wash and disinfect any scratch from any cat. and same for a bite of course, but scratches are more common. I have ignored that rule at my own peril in years of volunteering and I am finally vigilant about it. The deeper the scratch, the more risk. I haven't had an infected scratch

I ran a Cat Shelter for twelve years. This infection is very rarely contracted and when it is, it tends to be by people with compromised immune systems.

A couple of idiots protesting the fact that Sweden decided to give visas to ALL Syrian refugees who can make it to Sweden hardly counts as proof that Sweden is a hotbed of xenophobia...

I just read a book called ‘The Almost Nearly Perfect People’ about the Scandinavian countries and their culture/politics. I really recommend it, it makes it clear that it is not a socialist utopia, but still gives good insights into the positive politics we could all use.

Major awards are only given to great characters in literature, like the Lone Ranger’s nephew’s horse.

I wish we could have nice things...

As much as fantasy and sci-fi are often incredibly sexist, at least they can often operate in worlds where women have powerful and important roles to play, and can absolutely be the protagonists. I’m looking over at my bookshelf right now and I can spot a dozen books/series with female protagonists just in a quick

Sweden is starting to look like a very nice place to live.*

LOL! They created a patch?? They are acting like they are in some sort of military type organization or what ... Men Scouts? Manbaby scouts?

Ann Leckie’s nomination for the Hugos is one of the reasons the Hugo nomination process went to hell as MRAs invaded in protest. Ancillary Justice and Ancillary Sword are two books of a trilogy where a female bodied but non-gendered protagonist in a society without gender recognition but the default pronoun is “she.”

Pffft. Books about ladies can’t be harrowing tales of what war does to a man. To his very soul.
