So next year they will set up a charity to benefit Triathlon athletes in some way, donate the 50 slots to the charity and let the charity raffle them off. They start paying the employees who manage the lottery from the charity funds. They still get the entrance fees and the lottery $ raised by the charity benefit the…
Jesus, what even is this? Yeesh. (Also saving. Too weird not to.)
The NYC Marathon charges a non-refundable $11 fee for it’s lottery. Which isn’t much individually but adds up when like 80,000 people apply and only like 15% get in.
Hate to burst your bubble but your dad just created an elaborate ruse to rent a house in Hawaii for two months.
Was really hoping to get an in-depth look at how Tony Stark cheated his way to becoming a billionaire. Bummer.
This is how my dad got a Kona championship slot. Mom was pretty livid he spent money so he could spend more money to enter a race which, because my dad is an OCD old person, means he gets to spend more money by renting a house down there to train for two months.
I found one moment in the documentary very telling in explaining that: when Keyke Burns was sitting in her bedroom in front of all her prom photos, and pointed to a photo of her elementary school prom (which I didn’t even know was a thing?) and said “see, they even segregated us in elementary school...whoa, and I…
I just watched this last night and it was so sad. Much sadder than expected, cause I thought it was just about segregated prom. But really it’s about the shit parade that is US racism. And what a shit parade it is. Humans are the worst.
I got to work on this film, and I can tell you it really is powerful. She set out to make a simple film about the prom and ended up peeling back so many fucked up layers of culture. And it’s not all (pardon the pun) black and white. That is what makes it unique.
Right? I’m from the north, and I have to say that I’ve seen more than enough racism here to convince me that it’s not a regional problem; it’s a worldwide problem. And truth be told, that infographic is really rubbing me the wrong way. My fat body is apparently on par with having VD or having a high crime rate.
As a kid who grew up in a partially segregated southern town, you know it’s wrong but what are you going to do about it?
Unfortunately racists will use similar maps outlining relatively higher black populations to imply that black people are responsible - rather than understanding that the history of systemic and institutional discrimination against black people, combined with policies that hurt the poor, can result in the above maps.
You know, quite frequently when something like this comes up, or some Paula Deen-esque persona of the South says something insane, it is typically followed up with comments on “that backward south,” confederate flags, deep fried butter, ignorant baptists, etc... Which I think is more revealing of an ongoing desire for…
Nope. Protestantism is simply the christianity that is not Catholicism or Eastern Orthodoxy . Protestantism is an enormous umbrella that includes Anglicanism/Episcopalianism, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, AME, Pentecostal, etc. Basically it is everything in Christianity that is neither Catholic no…
Special kind of Protestantism. There’s a difference between traditional (European spawned) Protestant sects, Lutheranism, Methodist, Presbyterians, and Americanized Evangelical Protestantism.
Protestants have a HUGE range of beliefs, from super liberal to super conservative. A majority of Christians who are not Catholic are Protestant, and that includes Baptists, Methodists, Evangelicals, Presbyterian, Lutheran, etc.
Ok but as a black woman White racism in the north is just as bad and pervasive so cool it with that sense of superiority
