I actually like the test as a rough measure but it's possible to put too much stock in it.

Technically that might pass the test as those characters are machines and although masculine-presenting and are probably not biologically male and probably won't specifically ever self-identify as male, so that cannot be assumed without being sexist.

Well he had to taste all the food to check it was accurate for the context of the chapter, can't have the characters eating something inaccurate to the world he's created.

It's possible to respect everyone's wishes in this situation. Anyone who wants to can read the chapter as long as they have the respect to only talk about it with people who want to hear about it.

The 2007 web series Sanctuary looked better than that and I remember thinking it wasn't brilliant at the time.

Yea, the difference is Sherlock and House of Cards used it right from the start.
