This thing we’ve never seen before could be fine if done right. Have to try and explain your way around how it wouldn’t invalidate the Rule of Two. Get around that and go nuts. Have him be outside the Rule of Two in some way.

But making this guy somewhat lovecraftian could work. An entity that works on much longer

Interesting. Utah was one of the first states to do an 80 mph limit and the data showed almost none of what this study found. Marginal changes in speeding or injuries and people, for the most part, still just drive 80.

I was just about to post the same thing! That shot is brilliant. And it doesn’t hit you over the head with it, it’s quite subtle. Terrific, and very dark (oh my Lord, the subplot with Tony’s friend whose GF is pregnant...!). Great movie and Travolta richly deserved his Oscar nod.

Lego! They're all made of fucking lego.

is this the one with the space cowboy and his hairdresser girlfriend?

There’s that great scene where Tony goes to ask for his job back at the hardware store. Then the owner is happy to have him back, and points to the two other guys that have been at the store for decades. And then Tony just has this look on his face that says everything that you just did with one simple look. Travolta

Gene Siskel listed it as one of his favorites, and even bought Travoltas disco suit at an auction. Growing up, I had just heard of it some cheesy 70s disco film. Then I saw it and was just floored.

I’d take it past Hamill and extend it to literally every human hairstyle seen on-screen.” The movie really does have a timeless, unique design, except for the fact that every background extra is just some hungover bloke with a bad shag.

Saturday Night Fever sure is dark and gritty film. The Bee Gees soundtrack works well though.

Great comment / username synergy you’ve got going on there.

Agreed. As annoying as these trends tend to be, this is the one genre for which it makes sense. (And in all honesty, my first thought when the credits rolled was “I want to see Benoit on another case. Immediately.)

It’s to do with the running joke about her country of origin - Johnson realised that he couldn’t use Cuba (where De Armas is actually from) as originally planned because then the stuff about her mum being undocumented wouldn’t work. Instead De Armas used a ‘neutral’ Spanish accent and none of the family know from

Eh, I didn’t like TLJ but your comment is bullshit. He’s not a director that is ever ‘hamfisted’. Star Wars just does not allow subtlety.

The genre is entirely based on repeated mysteries starring the same detective. For that reason I feel like this gets a strong exemption from the general discontentment with recycling IP, particularly since the movie itself was an original work.

There’s no particular reason this couldn’t be a fun mini-franchise - Benoit Blanc as a modern Hercule Poirot, solving a different case every movie.

Oh yes I can’t wait, Knives Out was my favourite film of last year and I'm super thrilled that this is gonna be a franchise because we need more Cozy Murder Mysteries.

ha ha ha ha tough shit good luck with that, professor

With regard to the advisability of purchasing a former rental car. P.J. O’Rourke perhaps said it best:

Digital everything.

Happy Honda Days to all! I’m dreaming of a (grand prix) white Christmas!
