Ugh. I had this one rebuilt just because. I have dealt with them a lot on rabbits and old Mercedes stuff. What a pain.
The original tach didnt work really. My redline is 7200 and the tach would just stop before then. It also needed a rebuild. Rather than spend $400-600 having it re worked to match up with my engine, I snagged the vintage VDO tach you see here. I thought it was pretty sweet that it fit.

I think people are just into the romance that the air cooled stuff provides. The early cars are just the purest form of that. Maybe thats why? The interiors are pretty sparse on them, and got much better as time went on. That’s depending on what you consider a great interior though I suppose.
