Well to be fair, it wasn't an internet survey, the researcher specifically targeted midwives and probably emailed them a link to the survey.

I am so, so concerned about the information presented here.

Ah, amazing. That's just amazing. My thesis is an online ethnography - but a symbolic interactionist, exploratory inspection of a subculture. No critical discourse analysis for me! I love that phrase, though - "critical Internet discourse analysis".

That last sentence intrigued me to no end.

Ah, affirmative action! That's the phrase I was looking for.

This is very badly referred to when people complain about institutional ethnicity quotas - for example, having a few spots reserved at a university or workplace specifically for people that are minorities, or having less stringent entrance requirements for visible minorities.

I saw your tongue-in-cheek here (love), but to seriously answer your rhetorical question, maybe this was reblogged on one of the other Kinja sites. I find the weirdest comments on the articles that are also reblogged on Kotaku or Gawker.

Agree! I've only been on Jez a couple of months, and I've been delighted at this informal, relaxed, and sometimes hilarious way of writing.

Thank you for sharing this!

Sorry, answered that a little vehemently - I feel like the generalization in the comment I responded to is actually what contributes to people not taking smiling women seriously. To me, "perky" is a set of traits that have no bearing on your abilities to be a supervisor (bringing it back to the article), and is not

Eh, no. Sorry, but "perky" is a serious minority of women who smile a lot. In fact, being "perky" isn't about facial expressions, it's largely about voice, body language, and the content of what you say.

This is what I was coming here to say, but you said it way, way better.

THIS.

Oh no, this went from "ohmygod do I know you IRL?!" to "ohmygod you're one of those Zoey 101 people".

Thank you.

What?!

Agreed!

He's too big to say no to, but he still needs the cooperation of studios. Wonder Woman stalling is an example of that. They couldn't refuse him the attempt at creating a Wonder Woman movie, but letting it actually get to production? Not so much.

Disagree - this may have been true at the beginning of this superhero movie cycle, but by now the studios clearly aren't looking for good storytelling in their origin material. And I'd argue T&A is exactly what they want from a female superhero - but they can get that easily with a side character, like Black Widow,

Nurse Jackie does a great job with the female anti-hero approach, but I can't see it taking off any time soon as a genre. The female anti-heroes that don't have the starring role in TV shows get destroyed on the internet - a la Skyler White effect.
