I’d buy that if it were a civilian ship but... it’s a military ship. Homicide is kinda its raison d’être. I suppose you can still argue suicide, but I doubt any military would accept such a restriction on its available options (if nothing else they too would be aware of the self sacrificing hero trope.)

Same here. I think it’s a combination of sticking it to the draconian tech-suppressing rules, and the cheating tends to be quite clever. Both appeals to the tech nerd in me.

Almost all of our carbon footprint serves no actual useful purpose for survival. I would be willing to bet that pets provide a significantly better “quality of life improvement per carbon ton equivalent” ratio than most of our other expenditures. And no, a stuffed animal isn’t going to produce the same benefit.

Meh, I can solve it in under 1 second. It’ll probably take me a couple dozen quintillion tries though.

I often, though not always, stand because I’ve been seated for several hours and would rather wait standing rather than sitting. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the majority of people in the plane felt the same way.

It might have to do with the low framerate of the film. Linear motion works OK even at low frame rates, but repeated motion can break down into what looks like a random jumble if the sampling speed isn’t much higher than the motion frequency.

LOL, that ramen sandwich basically reinvented the yakisoba-pan.

I think it’s only really relevant if you have a bunch of devices. At home, having 4 separate chargers is no issue, on the road that can be problematic for a number of reasons - combined bulk, harder to pack as they’re rattling around, the place you’re staying may not have enough outlets, etc.

This looks promising... but the Amazon link has it for $99, not $80. That’s a pretty significant cost difference.

You may have answered your own question. Given that cheap Chinese products are already all over it, and have defined an price point expectation among consumers that’s too low for Samsung or Sony, they’re probably choosing to take a pass.

That probably has more to do with guests being ignorant of how their cameras work though.

As soon as the seat belt sign goes off, make a break for the lavatory. If that’s not an option, the next best time is right before drink service begins. [...] This gives you a small window of privacy if you think fast.

Pretty sure he used to be able to string together complete, coherent sentences. Not recently, but in interviews from years ago. It’s gotta be dementia.

That was my first thought. This one’s very good, but... it’s “almost perfect” whereas that one *is* perfect.

Despite conventional wisdom to the contrary, exercise isn’t an effective weight loss strategy for me.

They’d just tell you to go back and use the bathroom outside of the secure area.

Gonna try this. My usual go-to for stale rice is fried rice (being dried out some actually makes it better for this than fresh rice.) Also, tip for those times you make too much rice: rice freezes and microwaves back quite well (at least, Japanese sticky rice does.) Quite convenient when you want rice and don’t want

No one in Japan is going to be drawing a red noon-time sun. The sun on the Japanese flag is the sunrise, which like sunsets is, in fact, quite red.

Game aside, this is another good example of how lame mainstream US sports TV commentary is. Fox Deportes is infinitely better.

Either? Can’t we have both?
