It’s still a weird throwback to the rest of the DCEU to have Momoa play Aquaman. What will be really strange is if the film makes as much as the first one (still don’t know how it broke a billion...) and they want to keep him on, when it seems like Gunn would rather have him playing Lobo, which he should have been

Oh man, I completely forgot about Blue Beetle! Yeah, I’m not quite sure what they’re thinking with that, but I guess if it’s successful there’s no reason it can’t be folded into the new DCU if it’s pretty much standalone.

I remember seeing a video review that argued the real problem is Man of Steels flashback structure is all wrong. Namely, we’ll have a seen in the “present”, then flashback to something of Clark’s youth, and back to the present... but the thing we flash back to doesn’t add to or echo what’s happening in the present.

How far does that logic actually extend though? Like, if I sat down and wrote a story about the day-to-day life of an auto-mechanic named Steve, but I titled the story “Superman”, would you defend it as a valid interpretation?

Who knew Pa Kent had this inside the house?

While it’s true that there’s no “one true” version of any character, there are some characters or franchises which are so tied to particular ideas that if you’re telling a story with them and not sticking to those core ideas then your story needs to be reacting against or commenting on them. Superman is conceptually a

PLEASE don’t describe Snyder as a victim of the failure of the DCEU films. While it’s certainly justifiable to empathize with the personal issues that he went through at the time, from the professional side of things as a director and producer he was well paid for films that lots of people didn’t like. He wasn’t a

“Superman II” is a superhero film that continues to stand the test of time with its captivating storytelling and memorable characters. This cinematic gem showcases the perfect blend of action, heart, and spectacle. The film delves deeper into Superman’s personal struggles, allowing us to witness his vulnerability and

Nope, they care about people’s opinion on the movies, as expressed in dollars spent. The vast majority of audience members have never heard of Kathleen Kennedy, and couldn’t care less who she is. Heck, the vast majority of hardcore Star Wars fan had never heard of Kathleen Kennedy, despite her being #2 at Lucasfilm

Yeah, and good for them if they don’t want to come back. I’d like to see Finn return as a seasoned Jedi Master but that’s up to Boyega.

it’s cool to hate women and the things they do.

John Boyega and Oscar Isaac have both kinda disavowed the movies and have said to varying degrees they’ll never be back. Boyega particularly was so hurt by his treatment he said he’s done.

the CEO blamed it on the “worsening economy” and “market reality”

Oh, I wouldn’t argue with any of that. RotJ has honestly felt like a mess to me since I revisited it as a teenager. Luke and Leia being siblings felt totally random and unnecessary (it was apparently an eleventh-hour decision Lucas made once he realized he wasn’t going to make the sequel trilogy with Luke’s sister),

Star Wars was wrecked when the fucking prequels came out. Also you people are such hypocrites, because you want to blame KK for every perceived “failure” but you also don’t credit her for the shit you love, like Mando, Batch Batch, Andor, or whatever. There’s zero chance you hate all new SW content, so whichever thing

Yeah, I’ll go see things in a franchise I like, but I’m not above being critical of it either. Those two things are allowed to coexist you know.

Yeah, it’s generally forgotten today that the general consensus among fans back in the ‘90s was that Return of the Jedi was a mediocre sellout movie, at least until Phantom Menace came out. And now RotJ is in the Library of Congress, and TPM is approaching “beloved classic” status.

counterpoint: Lucas made the prequels, The Holiday Special, and the remastered re-releases. I guess his tenure of 5 good pieces of media vs the remainder of what he oversaw means the Lucasfilm years were also a wash right?

The only reason people are leaving disappointed is because they’ve ascribed this genius quality to Star Wars that was never there. The franchise has always been hokey and badly-to-OK written. The movies are fun, but it’s not Shakespeare and I’m not sure when or why we all started thinking that they were.

People are

“Everything I don’t like was made by mean old woman KK! Everything good I like was made by nice men Favreau and Filoni! I understand film business!”
