“When Will WE Finally Leave Britney Spears Alone?”
If you read Michael Palin’s diaries, especially the Python years, it is very clear that they all kind of thought that. Chapman and Cleese seem to have more of a similar writing style and their connection seemed to come from that over anything else - the same is true of Palin and Jones. They were without a doubt close…
Yeesh I tapped out at three. What if BATMAN WAS THE JOKER, even if the comics were pretty good, is just the most boring ass shit that a company that we’re already sorta mad at for just making Batman and Joker shit over and over again for decades, could possibly do.
Snapping Zods neck was a good thing for the character, it was the sign of a good villain to take the hero the to extreme.
See: The Mummy
I mean, in Snyder’s own words, his reasoning for Superman breaking bad in the future was much closer to the Injustice plot (Lois being murdered, and also somehow pregnant with Bruce’s baby) than the usual brainwashing.
Fault Snyder for presenting the actual future as “fever dreams”, (even and American Werewolf-style double dream where future Flash interrupts the Knightmare to warn him about Lois). As I mentioned, Cyborg even sees the future in his vision where Darkseid kills Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Lois (& Killowog), and Superman…
I think one of the most underrated problems with building a cinematic universe is that Marvel had an advantage that DC doesn’t have: their characters actually work in a realistic setting.
Why?
“If it was truly “once and for all,” they’d recast Amanda Waller.”
And that endless continuity comes with its own problems, i.e.- the formula well has been drained dry.
Get Justice League Unlimited’s CCH Pounder in the mix, or I’m right out.
I would imagine that his success with Guardians of the Galaxy also played a role in it. Those were characters largely unknown to the general public, hell, I grew up reading Marvel Comics, and I only vaguely knew of most of them.
That’s exactly the example I was thinking of. Judi Dench was great as M, and I have no issues with treating the Brosnan continuity as a different universe than the Craig one. Viola Davis is perfectly cast as Amanda Waller and they shouldn’t try to recast the role just because they’re also recasting Superman and Batman…
In fairness...
I thought BoP was a mess, I’m not really as huge in to Harley Quinn as most people seem to be though so ymmv. MEW as Huntress was great casting though and I hope we see her again.
If it was truly “once and for all,” they’d recast Amanda Waller. As it is, it looks like Gunn is planning to keep whatever he likes about the DCEU and will retcon everything else. I think it’s worth noting that Crisis on Infinite Earths largely did the same thing by “hard resetting” Superman and Wonder Woman, but…
What about Shazam! and Birds of Prey?
“Gunn, meanwhile, is still riding high on his talents as a writer/pitchman/visionary-type and his success turning Guardians Of The Galaxy into a going concern at Marvel; certainly, the pandemic-asterisked performance of The Suicide Squad at the box office isn’t what scored him the gig.”
