Messiah is the second book, before Children, and easily the smallest of the 3 by a HUGE margin. Messiah is only like 250 pages long.

I dont think so, but maybe some. Mainly because there are a lot of interviews with Herbert where he is all in on “How did they not see this????” and I believe there is at least one where he is like “I totally wrote him to be the embodiement of this on purpose!”. I beleive he said he wrote Messiah in a huff as a…
There is a whole lot of middle ground between Bleak Batman (Reeves, Nolan) and Goofy Batman (Schumacher)!
My issue is more that we JUST got this story, front and center, in Gotham. Retilling it but “darker” doesnt really sound like a great idea to me.
I can see a lot of people saying “He’s just a white savior” dismissively without having read it and not getting that it is part of the point and I am sure that gets old fast.
There are definitely threads, but to be honest they are all really easy to work around to make Messiah end well.
But Paul IS a white savior. It is 100% on purpose, both by Herbert’s intent and internally to the story.
Sooo its Gotham Seasons 1 and 2 but less wacky and more crimey?
Also what is the point of this? Relaxation=Demons? How does that track at all!
Yeah to me it is hideous, really dont care for the grey hood or that shade of yellow, but I do think that is part of it. Also, I didnt grow up with the series, a smidge too old, dont hate it but dont love the overall style.
I mean, aside from comparing himself to Hitler and noting he has a way larger body count, Paul actually doesnt do much to make you dislike him in Messiah, iirc.
To make Messiah he has to undo his changes to Chani, because Messiah totally doesnt work with Paul and Chani where they are at the end of Dune pt 2.
I know I am old but DAMN that is some ugly merch!
Let’s hope so, otherwise we are going to have to write it ourselves!
That idea goes back to at least Heinlein, to be honest.
No worries. We all do it now and again.
I didnt just mean visually, but you are not wrong.
I thought i saw that they sent the first 3 episodes out to reviewers?
It does drive me nuts because we’ve completely lost the idea that characters can and should be inspiring.
That looks better than anything this franchise has seen in decades.
