Are those downsides to being the Savior of the Fremen, or downsides to being the kwisatz haderach and the Bene Gesserit’s reaction to that? A subtle point maybe, but I would say the latter.

Yeah I am.

What downside?

Pauline Kael murders movies . . . with words!

Well it’s one Middle Aged White Guy to another here. I think that what has changed is both the immigrant experience in America, and the discourse around it.

I keep hoping for a good version of Braniac, which would bring the Legacy of Krypton to the fore, but not make it as antagonistic as Zod is.

Well he specifically is an allegory for the Jewish experience, where he can pass most of the time, but if his secret gets out, well, it was 1938 when he debuted. . . within a year, 20,000 Americans filled Madison Square Garden in NYC in support of the German American Bund, and explicity pro Nazi, anti Semitic

You can also engage with Krypton in other ways. Has he made the fortress of solitude, found the messages from his father?

I think the time would be much better used to show him balancing living among humans and helping people as a hero. You can do that to explore how he was raised by the Kents (the lessons they taught him about being GOOD) and the difficulties of being an alien in hiding.

I dont think you should read his comments to be that there will be no mention of his origin, just that they aren’t going to show it again.

Morally: Paul doesnt beleive he is superior, the narrative does. Paul takes what the Fremen have built and gives it Purpose and Direction. Without him they dont know how to succeed.

True but NONE of that is in the books. Suspensors just dont work like that, at least in the first 2 books which I have read recently (one this past year, one a few years ago).

They are so different in tone, it should be fun!  I hope they do them justice, because Loki’s big reveal and Thor’s dinner party antics were so well done in the comic!

A convo with you last year had me re listen to Veedon. I liked it but didnt love it. I think the things you like about it are actually why it doesnt work for me, and vice versa. Same with exile (I have given it MANY chances. Give me any Velvets album any day of the week.).

Yeah this franchise is sitting in the same territory that Indiana Jones is in.

Maybe we will luck out and they will just shorten it to “Rom”!

Did not know that about the Royal Scam art.

HA!   No really, all you are doing at this point is programming my afternoons music at work because I realize how long its been since I listened to those albums!

I thought you were a Veedon Fleece guy.

I guess Darth Madam George is just too much of a mouthful.
