I feel like the majority of the backlash is due to how much time Mulaney spent crapping on comedians who do ‘OMG my spouse is terrible’ routines, like the clip where Jerry Seinfeld is clearly trying to goad him into bashing her. If he had barely mentioned her at all I don’t think people would’ve been so invested.

I read a study somewhere that said the more people post lovey-dovey shit on social media, the more likely they are to split. That made me think of Heidi Klum and Seal getting remarried every year.

There’s no such thing as “cancel culture” and public shaming is just fine if a public figure actually did something shameful.  That’s just not what this is.

I’ve kind of already addressed this in another post - but basically I stated that the releasing of the body cam footage did damage because it painted her in the light of an abuser without any context. That abuser narrative has now grown and grown into this idea that she was unstable and he left her in the woods…

Same here. Sexuality and attraction *are* controlled by your brain. Most people are attracted to the opposite sex, in their age range. Gay/Lesbian (like me) are attracted to the same sex. Some are both, neither, etc.

I am gay and I am not really offended by it. I get what he was trying to say, but I think he worded it really poorly.

Yep, tried saying that in my own reply, but I think you sum it up quite succinctly. You could see where someone could come up with Kinja’s version of the article if you imagine someone taking absolutely everything on the worst possible faith. So frustrating.

I’d highly recommend reading the article linked in this one. It’s a bit more thorough. This article is just a fucking hit piece that cherry picks the absolute worst takes on the whole situation.
