I feel like the majority of the backlash is due to how much time Mulaney spent crapping on comedians who do ‘OMG my spouse is terrible’ routines, like the clip where Jerry Seinfeld is clearly trying to goad him into bashing her. If he had barely mentioned her at all I don’t think people would’ve been so invested.

I’ve kind of already addressed this in another post - but basically I stated that the releasing of the body cam footage did damage because it painted her in the light of an abuser without any context. This isn’t really the point, but I think a lot of research suggests that people, maybe especially men, drastically overestimate how much women speak in conversations and meetings. If a woman speaks at all, it’s perceived as her dominating the conversation, because women’s voice just aren’t considered as important or…
