I know it’s cool to hate on Spielberg but he is a legitimately masterful filmmaker and I look forward to anything he directs.

As someone who thinks First Man is among the most underrated (and best) films of the last decade - and who also likes La La Land and most of Whiplash - I’m champing at the bit for this one!
Although I often find his films high-handed and hectoring (especially the Maoist-period stuff), he was undeniably one of the most inventive and influential directors in 20th-century cinema. And has any single filmmaker had as impressive a decade as Godard in the 60s? Just insane.
You seriously have no problem with the dominant mode of so much popular media today being winking irony? It gets old fast. There’s nothing wrong with earnestness.

Pretty sure all those heavily publicized standing-O durations are greatly exaggerated. I mean, do you really believe a whole room of people is on its feet clapping for 22 minutes straight? Maybe one guy, but not the whole audience.
