as for burning calories, any time i do HIIT i feel revved up for hours after i finish my workout, which never happens after a steady jog. anecdotal evidence, sure, but it seems to work for me.

Honestly, the biggest factor is realizing that losing weight in a healthy manner takes time and discipline. that doesn’t mean life needs to be horrible. if you over-correct, whether it is with diet or exercise, you’ll set yourself up for failure. set realistic goals and make a schedule you can realistically keep.
