depends. if you have a gutter system like the old timey* cars and trucks then you can usually count on 75 lbs per dynamic load bar properly secured and evenly distributed.  4 bars = 300 lbs, 3 bars = 225 lbs, etc.  most 2 bar systems are dynamically rated to ~150 lbs.

Came here to make a joke about weird, expensive joke options.

I’m still not convinced the highlighter-green calipers are visually appealing”

Had two kids go through removable capsule stage in a coupe (E92) without too much drama, beyond a slightly scuffed B-pillar cover. It was actually easier in a lot of ways compared to putting the same capsule into our wagon.

Had one. 2002 Saturn SC1. Yes, it was very practical. Sadly, the rest of the car was about as exciting as plain oatmeal...

The law is clearly insane, motivated by ignorance and panic...

Let’s test the depth of your hatred:

Going on the record as a fan. Don’t own one. Makes sense to me as a way to do something different in a world of same, and it genuinely splits the difference between the extra style (and structural rigidity) of a 2 door and the extra function of 4, i.e. driver’s side looks like a 2 door, but still easier and more

All I know is it confused both my adult daughters and that has provided endless amusement on my part. :-)

If I was in the market for a car with a usable backseat, the Veloster would be the go-to for me.

Because one big door is easier for the driver to get in and out of?

You are late to the 3-door bashing party, please see the other thread...

Even if that were the proposed scenario, it’s still a terrible idea. Drivers have a tendency to be overly confident, especially when you consider how incapable these L2 systems actually are. Also, drivers cannot see the future to know when road conditions won’t give you any problems.

Have you tried to adjust the sensitivity?  I have Lane Keep Assist in my Charger and it works very well and unobtrusively unless I start edging the line.

I get ~10-15 seconds of complete ‘hands-off’ semi-autonomous Level 2 driving in my 2019 Hyundai before it shouts and complains and I have to put my hands back on the wheel.

Engineering students are generally notorious for poor writing quality.

I wished these systems were designed not to share the driving task for long periods of time, but to take it over completely for very short periods when the system has high confidence it is interpreting its environment properly, like in the I-90 scenario I described above.

I think you have the usage case right. the radio is a perfect example. Go go computer assist I need to find a song. You however also have the reason correct in that its a liability that car makers aren’t ready to deal with yet.

So what you’re saying is computers should fill in for Jesus when he takes the wheel.
