Well, and it’s not necessarily “cars”. When most buyers are opting for pickups and SUVs, the sticker gets pretty crazy pretty quick. A not terribly fancy half-ton pickup starts in the low 30s.

Neutral - because there are many markets where financing + new car discount + incentives make it cheaper. I recently bought a 2018 Sienna and paid less than nearly every 2017-2018 I’ve seen listed with 10kish miles. Other examples in this category of the market: Toyota Tacoma, nearly any Subaru. People will pay MSRP

Walk in, and then the dealership tells you they won’t sell it to you for cash.

It’s actually not that bad. While the overall prices paid for vehicles has gone up, the prices for certain cars have not. In 1998 my parents bought an Accord for $24k, and you can buy the same one today for like, $28k. That tiny 5k is still, sadly, higher than wage growth over the past 20 years but it’s not that bad.

Exactly. Just because it’s used doesn’t automatically make it a good deal.

Had the same issue. Finding a manual hatchback that hasn’t been vaped in or driven at least 150,000 miles in this area was really difficult and when I did find that car it was at most 3K less than a brand new car with cheap financing. Even then the dealer could only find 2 like I wanted within 500 miles.

Neutral: One item on my unrealistic bucket list is to walk into a dealership and buy a new car with cash. Naturally, this comes after the part that says “Become just famous enough to have my own Wikipedia page”.

Reverse: All Hail Honda

Neutral: Someone had to buy that used car new.

This is a particularly stupid take given that Tom just had an article last week about how people are overpaying for CPO/Used vehicles. Perfect example, I went looking for a CPO Crosstrek for my mother. Crosstrek Limiteds with 10K on them were going for 27-28K. I then go check the new car stock, and there are plenty of

Colorado ski traffic is already destroyed by the Crosstrek, we’ll hardly notice this.

lol- you will die if you do 55.  Try 70-85 mph.

No way dudes. I saw what happened on Hoovies Garage when he LS swapped his Porsche. It met the same fate his original engine did, on the exact same track lmao. CP all the way

This is proof that putting a SBC or doing a LS swap isn’t always the right thing to do.

I thought this thread was about Project failures, that’s looking amazing. Keep it up

Weiiiird. I had way more money living with my partner, thanks to shared rent and other expenses...

I’m at Wife and Children. I had to short out the ECU in my car to have a good enough reason to spend a day in the garage.

Christmas is coming soon . . . . . .

I’d live down by a river in a supervan any day.
