Most just assume there’s no ill effects to having TJ. That’s partly a root of the problem, and Jeff’s book dives way deeper into that than I can on this board.

FWIW, I know many parents of select youth team players who force their son to attend tons of showcases, tournaments, etc. with the back up plan always being TJ and seen as a “non-negative”.
