Frankly, when we’re talking about holding people longer pre-trial than the damn sentence would be, I’d like to see prosecutors just start dismissing the charges, at least in the case of property crimes or the so-called “victimless” crimes.

I’d quibble with just one point - I don’t think it’s quite fair to say “picking up random people.” That sounds like we’re saying that cops literally just make it all up off the tops of their heads, inventing crimes and suspects willy-nilly.
