You have a valid point, but if you can get 2.5 times the range for a few thousand more than the top level trim from a Tesla, there is no conceivable reason for this car to exist anywhere outside of compliance markets.

110 miles is a fucking joke.

Of course it's for the clicks. His literal job is to tell stories on the internet. So if he just wrote "I bought a car, put it on a trailer, towed it home, and nothing eventful happened," nobody would read it.

HOLY SHIT

You picked the wrong weekend to do this.

Bud! I live in Georgetown on your way up. Summit is looking at 2 feet of snow tonight through Friday, You are going to need a car with AWD/4WD or they won’t let you drive up I70 Westbound. New laws as of this year. Just be aware not to totally cheap out on the rental.

It’s still an interesting car and I’m glad it exists, but it really illustrates Tesla’s efficiency advantage. The Model 3 SR+ uses less than half the energy to go that distance. It can charge at 170kw, so a fair bit quicker to to up.

also important to note that the model 3 long range got 455 miles of range on the CARB. so it really isn’t a great metric to rely on.

From your link: “There’s a significant chance that when the EPA tests the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S, its numbers could be closer to our estimates or even lower, possibly hovering around 200 miles.”

I’m cross shopping these models also. Such a tough choice. One taycan, or 13 Leafs and just throw them away after a single charge.

As was pointed out on the EV Towing Thread the other day, there’s an ugly trade-off between “overall efficiency” and “ability to sustain high power outputs for sustained periods of time”.

So after reading Audi/Porsche marketing materials, you decided to give them a pass.

“I’m 100% the exact opposite, because I like to believe I have the intelligence and foresight to understand this and successfully avoid any issues. Give me all that extra range; no matter how short lived it is.

Porsche talked all that trash, and then when it came to the most important metric for an EV...it couldn’t beat vehicles 25% of it’s price?! Congrats Porsche...you’ll be the fastest EV alright...from charging station to charging station. Go take several seats!

It’s still going to be less efficient in the cold, at higher speeds than the EPA tested, and so forth.

Volkswagen and going around the EPA. Name a more iconic duo.

I’d rather drive 200 miles continuously with the peace of mind that I’ll always get 200 than have 400 degrade to 200 over time. I could foresee myself getting stranded often if I followed that higher expectancy of range.

I would have rather seen a decent PHEV...

Same. I can’t really understand why I did a mental 180 with this thing, but I’m actually starting to like it, too. Feels very strange, considering how repulsive I initially thought it was.

I’m starting to like that thing. Seriously.
