Yep.  I saw it in theatres, too, and I’ve taught it in a class on women directors.  It’s a lovely film.

I use Netflix’s DVD.com all the time. I wish that young people would stop being surprised that it exists, like a damn rotary phone or something.

There are only white people renovating houses and making sure there are no walls on the first floor of every house they renovate.

I also think that there was an expectation in the 1970s that some movies were supposed to be difficult and make a person think.

Oregonian here—I vote by mail. We all should vote by mail. Its more secure and results in much higher voter turnout.

Actually, the post office generates its own income and wouldn’t be considered “insolvent” if an insane 2006 law wasn’t passed that requires the PO to pre-fund its retirees’ health benefits through 2056. We don’t subsidize the post office, which is actually an incredibly efficient and in-expensive system.

I haven’t heard “vanity casting” as a noun before—I like it!

Sorry to hear about the meds and trouble sleeping after surgery. I think that sleep disturbance after anesthesia is not uncommon.

I’ve used “Irish goodbye” and “Irish twins” since I was quite young (I doubt actual Ireland-Irish people use these terms, but US Irish-Americans do) and remember having an epiphany as an adult that they were, well, problematic.
