Even the desert was pretty nice because they broke the area up in to lots of different types. Only one area is really a big drab desert, the rest has towns, canyons, caves, oasis, salt flats, hot springs. It was better than I expected for a big desert zone. I think one of the biggest issues is that some of the better

It really doesn’t help that so much else in Final Fantasy XVI is just visually disappointing in other areas.

It’s really not that bad. I thought the game was strikingly beautiful.

I can’t say I’ve had that issue. The only place I find a drag is Dhalmekia, but I find that about most desert areas.

XVI is top 5, possibly top 3 of Final Fantasies. Its thrilling, heartfelt, and is of exceeding overall quality; and it’s the quality of it that will easily carry it, much like XIV before it.

It does dial that crap back a LOT after the prologue. I feel like they tried a little too hard in the intro to showcase how mature everything is, but then overdid it. I liked the demo and have been really enjoying the game, but even I eye-rolled a lot during that prologue. The combat also gets a lot more nuanced, but

Also, I’m okay with ditching a lot of these new RPG staples in ARPGs. I do not need or want to worry about equipping armor that has 1.5% critical damage to increase to donkeys but -3% vitality when looking at grass or whatever.”

Alright then I guess BotW isn’t Zelda, Super Mario Sunshine isn’t Mario, and Sonic Adventure isn’t Sonic.

This game IS an RPG. It’s an action/rpg, but still and RPG. Historically in most final fantasy games you have very little narrative choice outside of side quests. You get weapons from crafting, purchasing, or loot. Rarely do you beat a boss and get a new weapon or piece of armor. The ‘roleplay’ in these games has

The diminished focus on items and loot is quite noticeable early on in the game. I’m a sucker for crafting systems, but this game will not scratch that itch.

“My answer is simple,” he said. “You need to have the best story, you need to have the best graphics, you need to have the best battle system, you need to have a lot of content, you need to have the Chocobos, you need to have Moogles, you need to have great sound, and that makes a Final Fantasy. And if you’re

I always find comments like this funny. While the series has had turn based entries, they’re hardly the series staple. FF X was the first main line turn based entry since III. Everything in-between used ATB

He’s about to pass out and then he hears the voice and sees a humanoid manifest in front of him. Suddenly, Ifrit. It was definitely intentionally unclear! Not to mention the intro is framed such that he’s remembering the fight between the two, which doesn’t make sense unless he was right there somehow.

Lol what happened to GaMe oF ThRoNeS iNsPiRaTiOn BaD!!!

The comparisons to DMC are super overblown. The resemblance is superficial at best.

I would say changing the combat system with each game is specifically Final Fantasy. The thing that defines the series to me, as a fan since FF1, is the mix of sweeping change with each game (different world, story, characters, combat/job/class/equipment systems) with familiar motifs (music, Chocobos and Moogles,

What specifically made it “not Final Fantasy” for you?

If people can eat chocobos, chocobos should be able to eat people.

what the actual devs said: we wobbled for like 2 seconds on including them because of the story tone but said screw it and did it anyway. The real issue was they required us to build their own under-the-hood processing to work within our game’s technical requirements.

This seems like a bizarre sticking point given how
- FF7 actually did leave them out
- 16, as it turns out, did not
