I traded in a 2006 Civic for a 3rd gen Mazda3 for my (admittedly much shorter) commute and it made a huge difference in my comfort. I would stick with newer models with radar cruise control and blind spot warnings for those highway sections.

I forgot to ask for floor mats when I finalized financing on my first new car. I asked the salesperson and he replied that floor mats are a pure dealer profit item, like movie theater popcorn. It costs them a couple bucks, so that dealer just threw them in with every car.
