It's my understanding that launching them lengthwise is even more dangerous, because it would simply keep going, potentially colliding with something, considering that it's designed to move through the water that way. If done sideways, it won't travel very far at all.

As one who loathes *most* sorts of reality television, has no interest in TruTV or MMA, I must disagree with your assessment. I don't insist that The Rock is some kind of action masterpiece, but I don't think it's anywhere near the levels of fodder Bay's later work turned out to be.

I always wondered if the VW licensing thing was just an excuse to avoid using the Beetle. Heck, in the movie, Bumblebee actually smacks a yellow Beetle with its door in the used car lot.
