The average gamer only plays 1 or 2 games a year. That’s why live service is so successful. There are many, many people that only play one game.

I remember a long time ago there was a post that would go around on social media of someone relating how they asked a guy they were trying to get to know what kind of video games they liked. They answered Crusader Kings II, and when the storyteller asked what else they responded that no it was just that one.

Yep - it’s essentially like starting a new campaign in D&D. Same setting, some familiar characters make an appearance, but not a direct sequel to the events of the previous titles.

I doubt the previous two games will even matter much in Baldur’s Gate 3.  It’s a different character in a different time period and using a different ruleset, so if you go into this blind you really shouldn’t be missing much.

But that’s NOT what I’m saying at all. In fact, that’s my one nitpick from Jesse Cox’s video.

As I play through the game, I will admit that I’ve seen elements of this game in many others. The gameplay isn’t really new, nor is the setting or story. The acting isn’t top tier, but is actually very good for a Japanese RPG comparatively.

But why, why can’t it not be Final Fantasy to someone that likes 16?

You don’t get to decide what’s Final Fantasy, the people that own and make it do. It just isn’t what it used to be or what you want it to be.
