A woman wanting a friend over a hero in a relationship is a rather reasonable opinion no matter where you are in the world today. Obviously there is push back in some places, but Korea is a nation with plenty of modern views on women overcoming archaic ones.

I would wager that feminism in those countries is a little farther back so to speak. What we would call normal, is a bit more radical of an opinion in South Korea.

If you think about idol culture, you can understand why the quote would piss some people off. And then you think about why it would piss them off, and you’re left in a s-ton of despair regarding a society that has some rather chauvinistic values about “purity.”
