I feel that he should simply answer the question as it is being asked - "what do you do?" with exactly what he does daily. If he is anxious that people will still respond poorly then he should talk about how he helps other people solve problems (this could be family and friends of course). He could also simply talk

I find it completely interesting and fascinating that everyone assumes the answer to the question of "what do you do?" has to relate to empolyment. I would definitely first answer with things that I enjoy and define me as a person.

I recommend public parks for walking, hiking, picnics, etc. Also so many venues are offering free opportunities as well these days - for example I went to the Dallas Symphony Anniversary open house yesterday and they had lots of entertainment including free 20 minute concerts throughout the day. Also first Saturday

I have used Image Capture on the Mac for years to easily maintain a backup of photos from all my Apple devices and it truly is a hidden gem as you mentioned. So many people who ask me for advice on photo backup are confused with other programs that download your photos - including iCloud and Photo Stream and also

So funny to read this as I have been meaning to begin a blog on my personal advice for random questions that I frequently get asked by family and friends. As a primary care physician with an engineering and IT background, I often find myself repeating advice. I have planned to get started within the next 2-3 weeks.

Well this is definitely a very creative idea. Quite interesting. Personally I would be concerned with different factors like leaving car overnight on shop property, cost of public transportation to and from shop for drop off and pick up, etc. And then I do all my own maintenance. Still, I enjoy hearing creative

Thanks for the addendum. I was looking for Ally because I would have expected it to score very highly. I've never had a fee from them, highest APRs I've seen, deposit via iPhone app is amazing, automatically refunds ATM fees with no effort on my behalf, and very fast customer support access.

I do like the standing desk setup but to me there is a lot of clutter and visual distraction in that workspace.

Agree. Maybe that project is someone's big rock for the next day.

Interesting article and worth the read but saying that work/life balance doesn't exist as per the article title is merely a ploy to attract readers. However, I like the perspective (or focus) that truly everything you do is actually "life" or "living." And also the mention that work/life balance is not a goal but

I guess that I am quite fortunate as a physician that email is NOT the way that people communicate with me in a "work" situation because that would be frustrating while on vacation. Although I don't understand why one would just not open a work-related email while they are out of the office on official vacation unless

Excellent response. I always enjoy reading your posts. I especially find the "putting you in control of the interview" comment brilliant and this gives one an incredible opportunity to express one's uniqueness.

Wow. I'm happy that you enjoy your place and environment but that's more than I pay (mortgage) for my 7000 sq ft home on 2.5 acres in Southern IN. I grew up in Dallas but now can't imagine my life without freedom and the space to host family and friends (and others in need). My brother just moved to DC and moved in

Exactly! I know this post is designed for those who are looking to be productive in "wasted" times but I find so much more value in participating in "mindfulness" activities when I can because my work as a physician is so intense most of the time. I totally agree that as a society we focus on just filling time rather

Agreed. When I buy my shirts I usually have to determine at purchase if it will be a tucked-in work shirt or an untucked casual shirt. The lengths really do surprisingly differ across brands, styles, and even sizes.

Good video for some quick tips. I find it interesting that the only part of the video that he has the sleeves folded up was on the slightly untucked section. I know it depends on the venue but I actually much preferred the slightly untucked sleeves rolled up look.

Are you in the US? I have always seen temporary charges of only $1 on my live statement and I've used several different US banks for credit cards over the past 2 decades. I agree with you that temporary charges of $100 would be very frustrating. And I agree - Mint.com is absolutely fantastic.

Well said about the "pain" of spending. If one is trying to really save then cash would be the best route of payments (and maybe use the envelope system). And if one has concerns that they may not be able to have self control regarding spending, then debit would be a great choice. However, the best financial

Agree. I've personally never been anywhere where debit was accepted and credit was not - nor have I ever had a problem with a "minimum charge" but I do understand with the credit processing fees why such a charge may exist at some businesses.

If you are financially responsible then using a debit card is just pure folly as you have less protection and nothing to gain. Period. Credit cards offer complete protection - simply call and the charge is removed while they investigate and you've lost nothing. And you earn cash, miles, rewards, whatever with every
