airlines are basically the poster children for bankruptcies - the economics are absolutely brutal, there’s shittons of competition (bizarrely, because you’d think it’d be hard to start up an airline), you have tons of unions to negotiate with, and you’re at the whim of fuel prices completely fucking you.
