Wonderful stuff. It's a terrible shame that the original paintings have vanished. I suspect they're either adorning someone's study wall, or they're tucked away in a filing cabinet. Hopefully, they'll re-emerge sometime soon.

Uhmmm... I think ground effect works well on ice, water and any other reasonably flat surface. Planes coming in for a landing deal with ground effect all the time.
