The only thing that has a worse, false PR record than nuclear plants is nuclear waste.
The panels themselves are safe but there are concerns with how some of the rare earth elements are being mined. Particularly Cobalt. While primarily this is a concern for batteries, some PVs use Cobalt as well.
I’d say solid fuel reactors are too expensive to be worth building.
Bad PR isn’t hard to fix if the media would stop with the fearmongering.
