I have to wonder where you live that you don’t think high beams are necessary. They certainly are where I live, in a largely rural area, and I was taught to drive by a father who was careful to school me in their proper and courteous use. (Also, high beams don’t work well in heavy rain and fog, just sayin’.)

Michael Palin is the cool, kind Python. John Cleese has turned out to be a woman-hater, even if he is a woman-hater who also hates Trump.

It breaks my heart that the loss of her son was the catalyst for her getting into politics, but I (a resident of the next county over) have been rooting for her and hope that she won’t let this defeat stop her from staying involved in civic issues and running again.

Exhibit A: Donald Trump.

I’m not doing that at all. I’m noting that his impulse control seems to have been rather selective.

I think you know.

Re: John Edwards. Absolutely, and I loathed him for it, but he wasn’t trying to legislate his way into anyone’s bedroom, either.

It appears that the man in question had no problem following the other rules of the theater, or he’d have been shown the door for talking or using his phone during a screening. Funny how his impulse control didn’t extend to keeping his hands off the female employees.

No, the first commenter is a woman who’s getting tired of disingenuous assholes who pretend to be unaware of how civilized behavior works.

“They are in a situation where they just can’t win because of their gender, which says a hell of a lot.”

Yes! It makes the distaste of the London visitors (minus Bingley, of course) much more understandable.

I also find the Firth/Ehle version problematic because Austen makes it clear that Elizabeth is a physical young woman, walking and running more than her sisters, yet Ehle, though suitably witty, doesn’t convince me that she’s “lighter of foot” than Jane or that she would enjoy a walk through muddy fields.

I just messaged them myself. If Gloria’s not good enough for them, I and my money aren’t either. They’re losing a 30-plus-year customer.

Hat, brooch, pterodactyl ...

Brilliant summation of this fraud. Thank you.

Eloise, you have left out the simplest of all explanations: I am not wired to be attracted to fat men. Doesn’t mean that I hate fat people or that I would never sleep with a fat man (because I’m more attracted to what goes on in the eyes and between the ears, you see); it just means that fatness doesn’t turn me on,

I snorted with laughter on reading that sentence (but, fortunately, didn’t wet myself). Well done, Mr. Torchinsky.

You need to do some reading before you sling those accusations. The vet who conducted the necropsy said that Secretariat’s heart was the biggest one he’d ever seen ... but otherwise completely normal. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Or they want to keep him alive (a) because even unproven he’s worth a mint in the breeding shed and/or (b) because they want to do right by him.

Mine aren’t batshit crazy! They’re both eminently sane, smart, and sweet, and they save my less-than-talented ass all the time. I’ve owned and loved quarter horses, but I’m not sure I’ll ever own anything but Thoroughbreds from here on out. :)
