I am partial to “Your mother died of cancer?” “Yes.” You will not die of that.”

Great, another streaming service I have to pay for to get a single TV show. Between this and CBS trying to hide Star Trek behind an online subscription, TV piracy is about to go through a new renaissance.

Matt: guilt and isolation, definitely trust issue

An excellent example of this si when he hits that kid in Colleen’s dojo. I think he was first drawn to her because he related to a dojo and the martial arts more than he did anything else in the city. It was his element. Hitting that kid was everything he was taught about how to toughen teenagers up, to make them

IF goes beyond showing how Danny is messed up, with how it shows the homeless guy and Danny’s time in the mental hospital, and then not being ashamed to admit it to the press. Even the Meachum’s plot shows the effects of living with a toxic/abusive parent, and the pressure on the older sibling to shield the younger

That is exactly what’s going on here and that is such a perfect example (I LOVE TRT).

I remember my mother once telling me that she didn’t like The Royal Tennenbaums because Royal was a shitty guy, as though his being unlikeable made the movie bad, rather than it being the point of the movie, and it speaking volumes about Hackman’s performance that she was upset by him.

Right? He couldn’t dial in his chi most times because his mind kept wandering to the deaths of his parents. But I guess a lot of people when watching the show didn’t notice it?

Clues?! BAH!!! Those just get in the way of people justifying their own preformed opinions!!! :)

His behaviour is highly erratic and incredibly aggressive, yet he seems to be stunned when people don’t respond well to him.

You sir, get a star.

It’s sort of the same characterization they played with in BvS (inb4 boo hiss). “Batman would never act that way!” Except, you know, he was finally pushed past his mental limits when a godamn alien killed all of his friends, and for the first time in his life there was nothing he could do about it.

I interpreted most of his odd behavior to the fact that he’s been essentially raised in an isolated environment, so his social cues and understanding is off. Could they have characterized that better throughout a few episodes? Definitely, but I pretty much got that his emotional maturity’s in arrested development, as

i had the same take. the dude IS incredibly naive.

I liked that they touched on how K’un L’un could be an abusive cult in its own right, because even in the comics it’s a dystopia, but they did nothing with it.

I actually think, or choose to believe, that it was purposeful. Danny was a guy raised in a mystical monastery for 15 years. he has all the street smarts of a chipmunk and as much skill at dealing with people as the chipmunk would have. Pretty to look at but no matter how you treat it, it will always give you blank

The io9 writing staff’s hate for this show is becoming comical.

It’s certainly not perfect, but it also isn’t the dumpster fire some people are making it out to be.

Hey io9, i just wanted to say, thank you for your early review of Iron Fist, it allowed me to go into the series with very low expectations and enjoy it more than i usually had, especially considering it starts of really weak, in terms of the lead character acting, the pacing and fighting choreograpy and pacing, but

I’m about half way through and it’s not nearly as bad as you guys make it out to be. So far I’m enjoying it more than Luke Cage... which, outside of a couple of scenes, bored me greatly. Iron Fist isn’t as action packed as Daredevil, but I’ve enjoyed it so far.

But... you still should its actually pretty good.
